Contributions to the Poor and Homeless

It is important for all neighbors in the South Gateway Neighborhood to know that your neighborhood association, SGNA, is blessed by our unselfish and gracious host, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, which allows us each month to use their wonderful facility without expectation of any financial compensation.

When it was asked of the church what we might do to “pay our way”, all they asked was that we bring food and supplies for the poor and the homeless in our area.

It was truly astonishing to discover how many people come to Our Savior’s each week for help. Because of the economy, there are more people than most of us can imagine who have either lost their homes or are literally trying to survive from day to day.

We also understand that because of the earthquake in Haiti, some people would rather give to that cause. The Haitians desperately need help, but let’s not forget local people who would be happy with a can of chili or a roll of toilet tissue.

It is the goal of each SGNA Board Member to bring five to ten dollars of non-perishable food or supplies to the church each month when we meet. We would also like to encourage any member of our neighborhood to contribute what they can during this time of struggle for so many people. The main office, which is on the south side of the church, will be glad to accept these donations anytime during business hours.

Thank you,

Patrick O’Dell
SGNA Chair
